New animated film ‘Abominable’ jointly produced by American and Chinese pic companies launches at No. 1 on the US domestic box office charts.
The animation featuring a fictional creature from the cold world of ice and snow amassed $20.8 million, a media report said.
Animator Jill Culton has penned and directed ‘Abominable’ for DreamWorks in cooperation with China’s Pearl Studios. The toon follows teenage Yi who encounters a young Yeti on the roof of her apartment building in Shanghai. She goes on an epic quest to reunite the magical creature with his family at the highest point on Earth.
The $75 million budget for the flick relies on Chinese audiences to come in force for the domestic release in China.
